Four o’clock a.m. again, and still I cannot sleep. I can feel the earth rotating, and I hear it softly weep. Some books are left unwritten, some questions never asked. Lost in the deep. I pull away the cover that I’m lying underneath. They are eating me alive, so I’d like to see their teeth. There are stories left untold, so many things are left undone. There’s no time to breathe. There was fire like there’s never been before, it’s still warming though it doesn’t burn no more. And I know that when it’s time for me to go, I got an open door.
I know what makes the flowers grow, but still I don’t know why. And some are taken early, long before they die. Did they want more than there was? Did they give more than they had? Oh, what a lullaby. They were singing in the rain like they invented every song. And when the rain was over, they were singing in the sun.
